Research Scientist
Posted: July 2007

VIStology, Inc. is searching for a Research Scientist to join a small but high-powered team focused on the exploration and development of intelligent applications that employ formal semantic reasoning techniques to the analysis of heterogeneous and uncertain data.

The responsibilities of this position will include the identification of new research opportunities, participation in the design of innovative solutions, the development of functioning prototypes, the empirical testing of developed applications, and the writing of technical reports, conference/journal papers and research proposals.

Qualified candidates are expected to meet the following minimum requirements:
1) at least an M.S. degree, but preferably a Ph.D., in computer science with a concentration in artificial intelligence, Semantic Web technologies, or a closely related field
2) U.S. citizenship (to permit access to government documents)
3) three or more years of experience conducting and leading R&D projects in industry or academia
4) strong verbal and technical writing skills

Additional skills that are highly desirable include:
1) Java and XML/XSLT proficiency
2) Solid understanding of Semantic Web languages (e.g. RDF/OWL/SWRL)
3) Knowledge-based systems experience (e.g. CLIPS, Jess, Prolog)
4) Exposure to Web Services technologies (e.g. SOAP, WSDL, UDDI, OWL-S)

Company: VIStology, Inc. is a small privately-owned R&D company located in Framingham, MA. We are committed to demonstrating excellence in the research and development of principled techniques/algorithms for the semantic analysis of heterogeneous data often involving uncertainty. Examples of this type of work include developing methods to aid in “situation awareness” (i.e., understanding what is occurring in an evolving situation through the analysis of data streams) as well as techniques for performing “information fusion” by which information from multiple data sources is fused into a unified characterization of an object or of relations among objects. We are investigating ways in which intelligent systems can be made available as Semantic Web Services that can be discovered and accessed using semantically-rich queries.

Benefits: VIStology strives to remain competitive and will work to compile a salary and benefits package commensurate with each employee’s experience, skill-level and individual requirements.

To apply: Please email your resume to jobs@vistology.com.

VIStology, Inc. is searching for a Senior Java Developer to join a small but high-powered team focused on the exploration and development of intelligent applications that employ formal semantic reasoning techniques to the analysis of heterogeneous and uncertain data.

The responsibilities of this position include participation in the design, development and testing of advanced software prototypes involving knowledge-based, formal reasoning solutions.

Qualified candidates are expected to meet the following minimum requirements:
1) at least a B.S. degree, but preferably a M.S., in computer science or a closely related field
2) U.S. citizenship (to permit access to government documents)
3) five or more years of experience developing Java applications and servlets
4) thorough knowledge of XML (e.g. SAX parsing, XML Schema/DTD)
5) ability to quickly learn new programming languages and techniques
6) ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Additional skills that are highly desirable include:
1) exposure to Web Services technologies (e.g. SOAP, WSDL, UDDI, OWL-S)
2) working knowledge of XSLT scripting
3) familiarity with Semantic Web languages (e.g. RDF/OWL/SWRL)
4) knowledge-based systems experience (e.g. CLIPS, Jess, Prolog)
